A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff future indeterminate, term or casual anticipated vacancies at full hours within the Yukon Transboundary Rivers Area.

Duties

Are you an organized and team-oriented individual interested in serving in a critical and dynamic position as a Program Manager (Fisheries Management and Transformation, Treaty Implementation, and Assessment – Salmon) for Yukon Transboundary Rivers Area, based out of Whitehorse, Yukon.

The position will work with teams of Canadian and U.S. managers, assessment and research biologists, as well as technicians and advisors to conserve, manage, and support the rebuilding of stocks in accordance with Canada's international commitments under the Pacific Salmon Treaty. The position may also work directly with Yukon Self-Governing First Nation Government representatives and the Yukon Salmon Sub-Committee to facilitate co-management of salmon resources in a modern-treaty environment.  

 

Essential Qualifications
Essential qualifications must be met in order to be considered for an appointment.

 

Language Requirements: English Essential 

Education

A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives. 

Experience

  • Experience in working with Indigenous groups in resource management, governance, or fisheries issues.
  • Experience in interpreting or implementing legislation, regulations, policies or procedures.
  • Experience leading projects or managing complex files

Competencies

  • Demonstrating integrity and respect.
  • Thinking things through.
  • Working effectively with others.
  • Showing initiative and being action-oriented.

Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize.
  • Ability to review, interpret and synthesize information.
  • Ability to manage conflict and difficult situations. 

 

Asset Qualifications
Qualifications that are not essential to perform the work, but that would benefit the organization or enhance the work to be performed currently or in the future.

 

Education

Graduation with a diploma or a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in biology, resource management, indigenous studies or with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Experience

  • Experience in managing marine and/or inland fisheries.

 (“Managing” can include providing information/advice on: stock status, fish abundance levels, catch, regulations, licensing, compliance, or other activities that are used to inform fishery, or natural resource management decision making).

Other Conditions of Employment

  • Willing and able to work overtime (may include weekends and evenings) and on short notice.
  • Driver's License or mobility associated with a Driver's License
  • Willingness to travel, including travel to remote locations by various modes of transportation (e.g. small and large aircraft, boats etc).
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Canada and Internationally
